This page of our wiki is for journaling about iPads at West. It's the messy part, the breaking new ground and the trials and tribulations of what it becomes.
Here's were we are...
2011.11.09 Tonight we will be working with the Syncing Station in the Library. A "Wish List" might be needed as an opportunity for teachers to be able to add an App for "purchase review" This would be an on-going list of Apps that is reviewed every quarter for example...

2011.09.28 (email) Good Morning!
Wow, the Monday PD that Jim Weber presented was awesome! I heard great comments from many of you too! Thank you!
Please remember the invitation is always open, to participate in our weekly iPad PLC on Wednesday afternoons. The most important piece during this hour, besides support & troubleshooting, will be the ongoing dialog as we study, research, documents, and develop the program.
I loved this definition: A professional learning community (PLC) is an extended learning opportunity to foster collaborative learning among colleagues within a particular work environment or field.
When you have time, this Edutopia article has some interesting talking points.
I'm looking forward to being involved in helping you and your students accomplish great things, as we start to work on the challenges of implementation.
Have a great day!! See you this afternoon.
2011.09.26 My notes are rough and in draft format here, and have holes... Nonetheless, here are my notes from the Apple training with Jim Weber. If there were others taking notes, please feel free to post.

We had a good crowd at the meeting. Thank you all for coming, sharing, and asking questions.
Cassondra came with good questions, this was one of them. When you get emails on your computer, with links to Apps, how do you get that on the iPad? Aileen explained how she did it and it was a great suggestion. It's a matter of finding the name of the on your computer, then searching the Apps Store on the iPad. On your laptop, click the link, choose "View in iTunes". This gives you the "name" of the App and a visual of the icon. On your iPad, open the Apps Store. In the upper right-hand of this screen, tap in the search bar and start typing the name of the App, choose to Install. It's important to have the "real" name of the App, and sometimes the "creator" as well, with over 425,000 to choose from.
Dixie taught us how to go in and out of an App, without closing out of the App by double-clicking the "home" button. This is also the way to check which Apps are still running on the iPad. How to "quit" open Apps on the iPad... Double-click the home button, and it exposes a second "bar" at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on one of the Apps. You should see a red negative sign for each app that is still "running". Tap each red circle, to quit the App. Click the home button to stop the shaking, and click it again to hide the bar. Dixie mentioned she doesn't do this everyday, but maybe once a week is a good habit to learn.
I will be collecting the rest of the iPads, checked out on Aug. 19, the first of next week. If you have any questions, for me, please let me know. Thank you!

Karla's meeting notes: ======= Visited about the possibility of purchasing SPED iPads and KDG, so mabe four more will be added through west funds. That is being worked on.
We heard more about the email and iTunes accounts that are set up finally. This is the program implementation that Karla had mentioned was not ready when we trained on Aug. 19. The iPads that were handed out at Wednesdays meeting had the 1st grade account and 2nd grade account authenticated on the iPads.
These grade-level accounts are set up as a credit card-less account, and when an App is installed /downloaded it is "pushed" down to all the rest of them and how it is possible, that you may never need a sync cable to install and delete apps on the iPads.
Newest Discovery!! thanks Dixie!
Learned how to take a screen shot on the iPad/iTouch...
hold the on/off button and the home button together and you will hear the camera click,
it saves into iPhoto on the iPad
then manually manage and sync photos to your computer
Karla had everyone turn in the first iPad checked out and re-issued another iPad with the new configuration installed
